The National Medical Commission decides which new colleges and seats to approve. They look at applications from institutions every year.
They check the institutions. Then decide whether to give them permission or not.
The government also wants to set up colleges in district hospitals. They want to do this in areas where there are no medical colleges right now.
They have already approved 157 colleges in three phases. This will help more people study medicine and get healthcare in India.
