Established in 1997, the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a premier private medical college located in Gangtok, Sikkim, and is a constituent unit of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU). It was the first medical college in the state, born out of a unique public-private partnership between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Education and Medical Group.
The institute offers an annual intake of 150 MBBS students, along with various postgraduate (MD/MS) and allied health science programs. The college is attached to the Central Referral Hospital (CRH), a 500-bed tertiary care facility that serves as a vital healthcare lifeline for the people of Sikkim and the neighboring North Eastern states.
